Last day working the DOLBY ATMOS at the Yonge and Eglinton Silvercity.  Matt and I dismantled the renderer and pulled its drives out, and left the system operable in 7.1 for the first show of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, and packed up all our stuff, gave the booth a sweep clean and it was like we were never there (except for all the extra speakers and amps).  We got our closing dinner at the only Italian restaurant open on the statutory holiday, and bid thee farewell; Matts off to Origon to stitch together more BRAVE shows, and I’m off to Hamilton for another day on a Halmark MOW.

It was a privilege to be involved with the ATMOS roll out, and Matt and I chatted the whole time about every supject under the sun, from IMAX and and movie sound/tech, to the natural world and growing up, school, marrage, predjedus and ageing.  We git to know each other pretty well.

I even got up to date on all of Cineplex and Famous Players histories from the Operations manager Martin, whis been at the Silvercity since they opened it.

Another day babysitting BRAVE.  Caught a bit of the climax from the vusa vip screening of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, and what started out as an annoying drunk college student on the subway home turned into a chit chat about the movie busyness with an eager Queens film student working as an extra on the CARRIE remake.

Stacy couldn’t get me up to come to Harry’s speach therepy appointment at 1000h and I slept right through the morning.  Had a lazy awakening, and ate a bowl of strawberries.  Then I’m off to the Silvercuty 2 hours early to finaly catch Prometheus in english. Which, it turns out, isn’t entirly worth it.

Two days as Key Grip as Bats & Capt fifht it out.  Watching the stunt wire team work from the boom zoom was great. Batman got caught up in a number of funny ways.  There was also a point in the day when the director James — who’s a stunt co-ordinator in his day job — got into a game of one-upmanship with a stunty. The two of them would jump into a trampolean and soin and flip in all kinds of ways before landing on a heavy matt.  James did it with considerably more controle than his underling.

Tony and I had a great constructive chat about the lines between Key Grip and Gaffer on the way home, as I’d over stepped that line a number of times due to extreme enthusiasm.  It’s pretty awesome Tony and I can talk about these kinds of missunderstandings with a measure of objectivity in building a working relationship and not just walk away sour and never work together again.

I’m very luckey to hook up with soneone whome I get

Met Matt from Dolby at the Yonge and Eglinton Silvercity and got to once over on our ( Ash and I) DOLBY ATMOS duties.  Apears we’ll each be starting a show of BRAVE (which is little more then a volume change for a trailer) and watching a show of BRAVE (which is great!).  Ash and I shared a Boston Pizza, and Dad dropped in for a brief chat. I filled him in on the weekend, and it turns out that Ron Cooper used to race a Shannonville.

I left Ash with Matt and BRAVE, and I’m off to Key Grip Batman vs. Captian America. It will be a long night

So, second day shooting cutting and Youtubeing CSBKTV at Shannonville Motorsports Park, and I’m feeling pretty good about this gig as a whole.  There’s still the poor internet connection to contend with, but this actualy gives me the time at the end of the day to catch up on the editing.  I hope I never get an proper connection!  I jslust need to remember to stick to Frank like glue to capture more of his improptu interviews.

Third day, stress back up again on account of getting the rider’s sponcers right.  But generaly I’m finding my way here.

Bit if a blowup at hone with Stacy, having returned home, had a lovely time beginning to put Harry to bed, then relizing I’d missed editing 3 whole segments, snd rushing to do so, and problems insude with the computer.  The blowup ended with a pretty irrational and overwelmed me stomping a banana into the floor!

Sitting on the Bloor line, riding all the way to the end of the line and Warden station to get picked up by AJ and we’re off to Shannonville for the first round of Canadian Super Bike racing. I’ll be shooting, editing and uploading all day tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, then riding back to T.O. with AJ Sunday evening. A long weekend away from Stacy and Harry, and it’s kind of mad how going away gets harder each time.  Got my book, got the last 8 episodes of The Story of Film to watch, and hopefully I’ll get something creative acomplished in my down time.

Looking ahead at the calender and I’m surprised how much is packed in there; DOLBY ATMOS on BRAVE for a week and a half, the BATS VS CAPT wire-fu shoot Monday and Tuesday night, four more CSBK long weekends, and inbetween them; Patricia, Leigh and Ava’s Canada’s Wonderland visit, Mike Cameron’s WEEKENDERS feature shoot in a weekend, Kevin Rasmussen’s two week short film shoot, Our Nova Scotia vacation getaway to the mother-in-law’s interspliced with a CSBK shoot out there, and once all that’s up, TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL tech reping the ELGIN.  Few, that’s one long sentence, and took 7 supway stops to write!  Then, midway through September, after all the Hollywood hoopla, a very blank calender.  I think by then the Halmark Family MOWs will be over, and I wonder if I’ll even have any time to come out on them again.  I hope so, as I love sparking on a proper set.

Well, maybe I’ll get the chance to do my taxes and scan all those 35mm negs sitting on top of the fridge in the preseved time off way down the line.

Arrived in Shannonville and the DOLBY ATMOS eMails are flowing in.  Hopefully this training session on Monday is going to work out as they origonsly wanted to do it over the weekend, wile I’m out here.

Last FILM IN A DAY of the school year, and Brent’s baby is due in less then two weeks; boy is his life about to change.  But how am I ever to see photos of the new baby when Brent “doesn’t Facebook”?

Met stacy and Harry at Dundas West and returned east to Main station for a play date with Esmay and her mom Jen.  We hit the near by splashpad and Harry is still scared if the water jets, but he does a bit better having conquered  the sprinkler in our back yard.  We’re out in the sun for a heck of a long time today, and finaly retire to Vic Park and a long ride back home.

On the subway a serious looking lady gets on a Yonge, blackberry in hand mid type, and carrying a duffle bag and see through grocery bag with long red celery poking out the top and an overturned strawberry backet in the bottom.  The basket floats a few inches up, and the strawberrys have gathered in a mushy red pool at the bottom.  I don’t think she’s noticed the state of her produce, as she’s glued to the blackberry the whole ride.  She looks serius.

I’m on the bus at the end of the day, heading to a location survey for a kung fu wire shoot that’s next week in the middle of the DOLBY ATMOS assignment.  It should be the 510 streetcar, but suprise wile I’m running late and thinking up better routes than Google can come up with: its a bus!  Anywho, there’s a ping pong from the back of the bus to the front abd back again as teo different muscle bound jocks yell into theur cells.  Not in anger, just iver the roar of the clean fuil nurning engin.  Once one gets off the phone, the other steps on the bus already yelling into his device.  Once he’s done the guy in the back us answering his silly ringtone with an abrasive HELLO!?!?

Today was a great day of walking down to parkdale with the family and popping into shops and seeing people we know. Harry also played in the sprinkler for the first time.  And he broke it as well.
